New hires at First Christian!
There are some new faces around First Christian! As was announced in last week’s newsletter, all three open positions have been filled, and I am thrilled about the new opportunity for ministry that these folks will provide. When God calls us to “new beginnings”, God provides the resources we need to live into those changes. New folks will provide new ways of doing things, and we won’t be able to lean on that old church cliché: “that’s just the way we’ve always done things”! New folks will help us to look with fresh eyes at our processes that don’t serve our mission as well as they once did, and help us live into new ways that will enable us to love God and love our neighbor more effectively. There will be some change, and it might be uncomfortable as the “boat” starts to rock. I am confident that these are only signs that we are following God into transformation, and we can trust God to lead us well.
Juliann Berrios started yesterday as our new Administrative Assistant.
This is an exciting opportunity for me to join First Christian Church. I grew up in the northeast part of Columbia where I attended St. David’s Episcopal Church. I am a mother of two pups, Milo and Polar Bear. I enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, swimming, cooking and spending time with my family.
Previously, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. I was a health education facilitator in a small village off the Silk Road. This ignited my passion in service to others, and to continue my education in the medical field. I am currently completing my prerequisites in pursuit for my masters in physician’s assistant. I received my BA and BS in International Studies and Anthropology at College of Charleston. People like my mom would say I am a professional student.
If you get a chance to come by the office during my working hours, I’d really like to familiarize myself with members of the congregation.
Juliann’s hours through August (due to her summer school schedule) will be:
Mon and Wed: 9:00-3:30
Tues and Thurs: 1:30-3:30
After August, she will go to office hours of 9-1, Mon-Thurs.
Look for more information next week about our Childcare workers Audrey Johnson (Childcare Director) and Kellie Carawan (Childcare Assistant).
Announcing…First Christian Columbia’s new website!!
We are very pleased to announce that the new website is now live!! Check it out at www.firstchristiancolumbia.org, the same address as before.
As you know, the Tech/Website Team has been working hard to make this possible. Thank you to:
The Tech Team: Bonnie Rabon, Jeanette Bergeron, Jennifer Moreno, Nancy Raley, Alan Craig, and Pastor Katherine.
To Harrelson Marketing Agency, Sam and Merianna Harrelson for their diligent work and focus on the website as an extended ministry of our church.
The site features several “top of the line” capabilities that will make it very user-friendly: --It is “mobile-friendly”, which means that when viewed on a mobile device it will automatically change formatting for easy viewing. --It also has the capability for online giving! You will be able to give offerings at any time through the website, make any notes or designations, and know that the funds go securely to enable the church’s mission.
There will continue to be several updates and additions to the site. Feel free to email me suggestions or point out any glitches you find.
